Working 9 to 5 – Renew your Thinking

Good Morning! Have you had a good week?

I was listening to BBC Radio 2 on Sunday where Elaine Page, the eminent stage performer plays music through the ages; particularly stage and film shows. Elaine played Dolly Parton working 9 to 5.

The words of this song really struck me with a feeling of how grateful I am that I have a life now which is far removed from the traditional 9 to 5 work regimen. “pour myself a cup of ambition’, ‘what a way to make a living’, ‘barely getting by; ‘it’s all taking and no giving;’  ’they just use your mind and they never give you credit;’  ’it’s enough to drive you crazy if you let it’ …….. and so on!

The full Moon has passed this weekend and we are now moving towards a month of renewal and rejuvenation.

With the Dolly Parton song in mind, I have been reminded of the importance to renew my thoughts, be willing to let go of habitual patterns of thought which do not support who I am and what I want to achieve.

Just as our muscles need to be exercised in order to support our skeletal frame work – so too, do our brain muscles need to be exercised/stretched in order to know that we are creating thoughts which will take us to the goals we have set.   (Sometimes referred to as out of our comfort zone).

Every thought creates form on some level; our thoughts are what drive our behaviour which in turn is an action which will have an outcome.

I like to take a snap shot of my thoughts during the day. I always ask the same question which is ‘are my thoughts in alignment with the decisions I need to make?’ It’s a great way to course correct if the ‘jabber monkeys of doubt’ have crept in, as they sometimes do especially when I am encountering something new.

Another way to check where your thoughts are is to change your motivations. Rather than ‘what is in it for me’ try,  ’ how may I make a difference/add value/be of service?’. By moving the focus from self to others will bring profound rewards in your personal and business life.

As Dolly says ‘ There’s a better life’ ….. I say take the helm of that ship and sail it towards your dream.

With Love and Compassion

Endings and Beginnings

It’s my Birthday in just over a week.  Being born at this time of the year coincides with Spring Equinox and this year there is also a Full Moon.  So how is all of this any significance I hear you ‘say’.

Firstly, every Full Moon gives us the opportunity to release the old in our lives and let go of the emotional baggage that we are carrying that we no longer need.   I appreciate that not everyone has laser focused self awareness that this is what the planets are calling us to do.  But what I do know is that everyone has intuition; a feeling; a knowing that something does not ‘feel’ right/comfortable.   What a gift this is.  It can be the catalyst for adjusting what does not serve us anymore.  Change is always a good thing no matter how it is served upon us – conscious choice or forced upon us.   Change always presents the opportunity to reflect and revise our priorities in life.

So, with my Birthday just around the corner, and I will be the other side of 45 years old (oh let’s say young!) I have reflected on the changes that I have consciously created in the last year. I have let go of the mental, analytical, critical and practical thinking and acknowledged my inner knowing that I am here for a purpose beyond the ‘traditional’ Mother, Wife, Daughter, Friend.   And what an empowering year I have had.

It started with a bold decision to take a blank canvas and repaint my vision for my life and my gorgeous family.   This inner wisdom has really illuminated my mind as to what is possible.

Slowly, over the past year I have got into the action that I need to in order to bring my vision to life.

On a personal level, I have

  • lost over 28 pounds in body weight;
  • brought my measurements to a UK size 10
  • religiously attend my bi weekly bootcamp class
  • added two 6.4km runs a week since October 2010
  • participated in a 5km run for Cancer Charity
  • set up a new business
  • travelled to Sydney and Vancouver
  • celebrated the success of my Son’s GCSE results
  • celebrated my Daughter’s 18 Birthday
  • Learned how to use a computer properly, with all the exciting technological applications I can use to accelerate my business
  • joined Toastmaster International
  • member of the Federation of British Business
  • re- aligned my Reflexology Practice to serve the elderly in our community
  • Given Back to our community in my chosen local charities
  • coached year 11′s to successful interview techniques as they prepare to move onto college/employment
  • bought some chickens to introduce me to my long term vision of having a smallholding – they are hilarious
  • attended a coaching course
  • let go and learned how to enjoy the journey, every day, every moment
  • watched my circle of influence evolve as I set the bar that bit higher for myself

When I look back on the achievements, it’s quite a list.   I do remember that at times I thought that things were not moving quick enough and there were plenty of times when I thought I might fail, especially in the area of fitness.

But, we are all a work in progress; I’m pleased with my progress, empowered and increased in self confidence that I am completely capable of going for my absolute vision.

We are all capable; we can all be our own leaders and leaders for others; we can all be pioneers in our own life, regardless of what our actual careers are or what our circumstances are.

With the power of the Full Moon this week, harness its energy.  it’s time to be powerful, self aware, inner directed and take responsibility for your life and your happiness.

With my Love and compassion to you All

Michelle
