Good Morning! Have you had a good week?
I was listening to BBC Radio 2 on Sunday where Elaine Page, the eminent stage performer plays music through the ages; particularly stage and film shows. Elaine played Dolly Parton working 9 to 5.
The words of this song really struck me with a feeling of how grateful I am that I have a life now which is far removed from the traditional 9 to 5 work regimen. “pour myself a cup of ambition’, ‘what a way to make a living’, ‘barely getting by; ‘it’s all taking and no giving;’ ’they just use your mind and they never give you credit;’ ’it’s enough to drive you crazy if you let it’ …….. and so on!
The full Moon has passed this weekend and we are now moving towards a month of renewal and rejuvenation.
With the Dolly Parton song in mind, I have been reminded of the importance to renew my thoughts, be willing to let go of habitual patterns of thought which do not support who I am and what I want to achieve.
Just as our muscles need to be exercised in order to support our skeletal frame work – so too, do our brain muscles need to be exercised/stretched in order to know that we are creating thoughts which will take us to the goals we have set. (Sometimes referred to as out of our comfort zone).
Every thought creates form on some level; our thoughts are what drive our behaviour which in turn is an action which will have an outcome.
I like to take a snap shot of my thoughts during the day. I always ask the same question which is ‘are my thoughts in alignment with the decisions I need to make?’ It’s a great way to course correct if the ‘jabber monkeys of doubt’ have crept in, as they sometimes do especially when I am encountering something new.
Another way to check where your thoughts are is to change your motivations. Rather than ‘what is in it for me’ try, ’ how may I make a difference/add value/be of service?’. By moving the focus from self to others will bring profound rewards in your personal and business life.
As Dolly says ‘ There’s a better life’ ….. I say take the helm of that ship and sail it towards your dream.
With Love and Compassion
